Windows Mobile Device Center cannot sync with my Outlook 2010

I've recently tried to sync a phone with my Outlook contacts and calendar via USB cable. It worked fine before on this machine already, but I had my x64 desktop reinstalled since then and now I have Outlook 2010. Yes, the 64-bit version.

First I didn't understand why I'm out of luck now... I always got a pop-up from WMDC with the error message "Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging".

Basically there is no hope to make this work with the x64 version of Outlook 2010?!
